TO CHIP OR NOT TO CHIP - IS THAT REALLY A QUESTION? The Government is proposing a scheme for every dog, and eventually every cat, to be identified by either a tattoo or microchip. When you hear about an owner's heartache when they have lost their pet or the cruelty inflicted through ignorance or just down right maliciousness do you feel sadness, anger or outrage? Good news for good owners - bad news for those that aren't. Identification means accountability. The animal should feel no more discomfort from a microchip implant than from a conventional injection, even less. Microchipping uses Radio Frequency (RFID) technology and cannot be tampered with, fade or be removed. The chip is deposited into the fatty area between the shoulder blades. The needle houses the microchip and is therefore larger than a conventional needle, however, a clever design allows it to incise the skin easily with little discomfort. The microchip is then registered to the owner by the implanter and owner given all the neccessary details on steps to follow should the dog become lost. Hornchurch Pet Services are able to microchip dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs and ferrets. We can also microchip horse saddles.

THE pet-detect® MICROCHIPPING SYSTEM
The Pet-detect systm is fully compliant with the ISO regulations in effect for the United Kingdom and Europe - AND is recognized as one of the best chips you can use! In dogs and cats and small 'furries', the chip sits in the fatty tissue just under the skin and is TOTALLY inert - no batteries, no magnets and no moving parts. The pet-detect® microchip has the LEAST amount of components than any other brand - reliability is built in. Are all chips the same? NO WAY!! SMALL is best! The chips we use fall into the category of MICRO-Transponders (those UNDER 12mm in length). Needle sharpness and needle wall diameter are also CRUCIAL for easy insertion. The pet-detect® chip measures only 11.5mmand the needle has anultra thin wall PLUS a double-edged bevel and is as sharp as a scalpel.
THE UK REUNIFICATION DATABASE - PETLOG
Petlog is the official UK database and is run by the U.K.Kennel Club. They are available 24/7. All our chips are registered with Petlog. When calling Petlog, you must first select the category you are enquiring about (lost pet - found pet etc) You are then put through to a human being - thankfully not a frustrating call centre abroad. The LIFE-LONG registration of your pet is included in our microchipping price. Everything revolves around the microchip number so make sure you have that to hand before you call Petlog. Other databases do exist in the UK, but they are small in comparison (or held overseas) and are mainly dedicated to a particular brand of microchip. In our opinion, that makes them virtually useless, because they offer a limited service and their contact numbers are not familiar to the very people who use them on a regular basis i.e. dog wardens, vets, police, rescues etc. Hornchurch Pet Services only work with Petlog. Our microchip supplier also operates a'back-tracking' system for those times when a microchip number has not been registered with Petlog for whatever reason. This allows the microchip company to track down the microchip number through the purchaser of the chips, and from their records, the owner of the pet. It's also important to know that Petlog are part of EuroPetNet. EuroPetNet cleverly connect several European databases together - so even if your pet is lost whilst you're on holiday in France or Spain or another European country, you still have a good chance of being reunited with it. This is all included in the Petlog one-off registration fee. The other databases may not be a signatory to EuroPetNet.
